4-DAY TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOP ON GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING, GRANTS MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH NETWORKING IN GERMANY
In line with its commitment to superintending over the continued growth and development of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and the need to continue to develop capacity, this workshop was sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and jointly organised by Cognity Advisory and Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (FZJ). The workshop was designed to increase and build the capacity of selected mid-level and senior academics in various Nigerian Higher Education Institutions. There were 34 participants drawn from 34 different higher institutions and it was held at Hörsaal Raum 200, FZJ Central Library, Jülich from Monday June 27 to Friday July 1, 2022.
The goals of the workshop included:
- Training participants on Grant writing for local and International calls for research proposals including-
- Designing a research project
- Drafting proposal outlines
- Sourcing for research fund opportunities in Germany and Europe
- Research data management
- Integrity and ethical consideration sin research
- Dealing with unexpected outcomes
- Project reports writing 9including peer review publications)
- Drafting and controlling project budgets
- Managing research in cross cultural teamwork
- An overview of the H2 Atlas-Africa project
- CVs for grant applications

The training was conducted over a four-day period using an interactive methodology that ensured that participants accurately perceived and understood the knowledge disseminated. Participants were engaged through discussions, group work activities and personal presentations with ample opportunity for feedback, queries and suggestions.
At the conclusion of the training, the following outcomes were realised:
- Improved grant writing and grant management skills
- Improved project conception, development and pitching capability
- Improved skills for identifying and connecting international research partners
- Improved ability to transfer grant writing skills to others effectively
- Increased chances of winning grant funding for research proposals.
